Outdoor Wedding Venues in Norfolk and Suffolk I’d Love to Marry You At

There’s a reason couples are increasingly ditching the country-house-hotel route in favour of woodlands, beaches and glamping fields. An outdoor venue lets the day breathe. It feels more personal. The photos look completely different. And nobody’s stuck in a function room that smells of last week’s wedding.

Here’s my pick of the venues across Norfolk and Suffolk that I’d happily marry you at any day of the week, with a few notes on what makes each one special.

For Woodland Vibes

Happy Valley Norfolk

Tucked-away woodland with proper “we’re getting married in the trees” energy. Brilliant for couples who want their guests to feel like they’ve stepped out of normal life for the day. Plenty of space for a ceremony in the trees, then drinks and food in the woodland clearing.

Fy-Camp

Camp-meets-celebration. Outdoor ceremony space, glamping for guests, fire pits in the evening. Made for couples who want their wedding to feel like a long weekend with the people they love.

For Glamping (and Llamas)

Glamping with Llamas

Yes, this venue exists. Yes, you can absolutely include the llamas in your photos. Beautifully set up for ceremonies, intimate guest numbers, and the kind of wedding everyone is going to talk about for years.

For Converted Churches and Character Venues

The Flint Room, Norwich

A converted church right in the centre of Norwich. Beautiful original features, plenty of atmosphere, and easy to get to for guests travelling in. Brilliant for couples who want something with proper architectural character without going full traditional.

Norwich Arts Centre

Another converted church, with a creative streak. Couples who want their wedding to feel a bit “us” rather than off-the-shelf love this venue. Great for music-loving couples too.

For Suffolk Couples

 The Bell Hotel Saxmundham

Charming hotel venue with all the practicality of accommodation on site. Lovely for couples who want a slightly larger guest list without sacrificing personality.

Rookery Meadow

Outdoor charm, lots of green, properly relaxed. The kind of venue where nobody minds if it pours with rain because the Plan B is just as lovely as the Plan A.

Reading Room Weddings

A genuinely characterful venue for couples who want something off the beaten path.

A Few Things to Think About When Picking an Outdoor Venue

  • Sound. Outdoor ceremonies need a microphone if you’ve got more than 30 or so guests. Most venues have one. Worth asking.
  • Plan B for weather. Norfolk weather has opinions of its own. Make sure your venue has an indoor or covered option you’d actually be happy with.
  • Accessibility. Woodland venues can be tricky for elderly guests or wheelchair users. Ask about paths and parking.
  • Sunset timing. If you want golden hour photos, time your ceremony with the sunset in mind. Roughly 90 minutes before.
  • Licensing for the legal bit. Outdoor venues are rarely licensed for the legal ceremony. Most of my couples sort the legal bit at the register office a few days earlier and use the celebrant ceremony at the venue as the real wedding.

Picking the Right One For You

Honestly, the venue picks itself once you’ve nailed two things: how you want the day to feel and how many people you want there. The rest follows.

If you’ve got a venue shortlist and you’d like a celebrant’s perspective on which would suit your ceremony best, drop me a line and I am happy to advise what would work best for you.

CEREMONIES I CREATE

Four things I do, all of them bespoke, none of them dull.

Weddings

For couples who want a celebration that actually sounds like them. Outdoor, indoor, themed, traditional with a twist, blended families, multicultural, gay, lesbian, transgender, self-marriage, pet weddings. If you can imagine it, we can plan it.

02

Renewal of Vows

For couples who’ve already done the legal bit and want to mark the journey since. Big anniversary, second chapter, “we never had the wedding we wanted the first time”. Whatever the reason, let’s mark it properly.

Elopements

For the two of you, a witness or two, and a story worth telling. Tiny, intimate, no fuss, all heart.

Namings

A proper welcome for a new baby, an adopted child, a blended family or a child of any age. No religion required. Joyful, inclusive, and made for your family. Celebrating a divorce and changing your name, or a transgender naming ceremony marking an important milestone in your life.
